Mathenev, 71, of 40 South Plains Rd., The Plains, formerly of Morgan County, died at 4 a.m. Wednesday at University Hospital in Columbus. He had been in failing health several weeks. Born July 12, 1905, in Morgan County. Mr. Mathenev was the son of Mrs. Elizabeth Matheney of Columbus and the late Naaman Matheney. He was a retired operating engineer from Athens County Highway Department, attended attended the Nazarene Church in The Plains, and was a member of Paramathia No. 25, F&AM in Athens. Surviving arc his widow, Sylvia; a son, Wayne Matheney of Hampton, N. H.; four daughters,, Mrs. Howard (Jean) Davis of Glendale, Ariz., Mrs. Joann Smith of Glouster, Mrs. Jerry (Janet) White of Malta and Mrs. Letha Wolfberg of Akron; a step-son, step-son, step-son, Robert Safronko of Marietta; a step-daughter, step-daughter, step-daughter, Mrs. Roger (Shirley) Wilson of The Plains; three sisters, Mrs. C. J. (Helen) Hagan of Columbus, Mrs. Walter (Doris) Patton of Titusville, Fla., and Mrs. Willard (Peg) Deitrick of Columbus; and 22 grandchildren. grandchildren. The body was taken to Hughes Funeral Home at 168 Morris Ave. in Athens where service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday with burial in Hampton Cemetery. Masonic service will be conducted by the Paramathia Lodge at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where friends may call anytime after noon Friday. .
